Caring for Pewter

Pewter can be handbuffed with 000 steel wool or a green Scotch Brite® type pad to keep it bright and shining. It will, over time however, acquire a gray patina finish due to the oils in the hands reacting with the metals in the pewter. Hand wash and towel dry immediately to keep from spotting and discoloring. Do not put in a dishwasher, the harsh detergents will cause pitting of the metal.

Never place pewter on a hot surface. My pewter is considered fine pewter and has a 92% tin content with 7% copper and antimony. This results in a metal with a low melting point (about 425 degrees Fahrenheit) and will melt if placed on the burner of a stove.
